    AP ratio using h2o2 50% ?

Here is my failsafe way for beginners to make AP. Without H2O2.

What do you make of this?

If it was solid Gold it would definitely have a marking. Do you have an used AP solution? If so, you could run it for a few days. If it is brass or bronze that would be apparent after some time when the copper get exposed.

    Saturated AP filtering tip

I wonder: What would happen if you had a large vessel filled with well used, saturated clcu2. Say this acid had been used for many batches of trimmed fingers and the like. Consequently, this solution also contains obvious flakes of gold that are very small, maybe from ribbon wires or...

    Optimal Acid Temperatures

I appreciate the "rant". There are very few things more important to a researcher than the number of citations of their publications. Giving credit to those hobbyist that share their work, encourage more sharing and peer review. Enough can't be said.

    Gold Foam

...amounts, enough to skew the purity of the Gold. That is why we cool and dilute before filtering. And Tin and AR is no fun, that is why we try to dissolve it in HCl or AP first. You never dissolve Gold in/on cards/PCBs. You dissolve the base metals to release the foils. Pins is a different story.

Gold Pin Refining - Solid Gold? Unexpexted Results. Help?

I wanted to follow up on this to report my findings. I've left the pins in AP for about a week now with no observable change. I do see that some of the pins now feel a little 'soft', but I am not seeing a discoloration of the AP which would indicate that there is a high level of copper present...

What's the final word on Kovar...?

When you have AP you do not need much more Copper. If there are some Copper available in the leach and plenty of air, you basically just need to give it some more HCl from time to time. Timeline is days to months depending on temperature and amount of material.

    Iron in aqua regia

...is as pure as practical before actual refining. Another issue is that Nitric is expensive and may create trouble later in the process. By removing the base metal either mechanically, with AP or HCl. One saves Nitric, processing time and avoids issues later in the process. And maybe more as well.

Gold plating under green boards and caustic soda

Will plain AP get to the gold and copper underneath the green board if NaOH is optional? I always assumed it would. This is why I asked here, you all are alot more knowledgeable than facebook

    New ram IC chips processing?

Your material is looking dark. Hard to say if it's fully incinerated. I would incinerate it again, grind it again and dissolve the gold and the remaining copper in AR. AP will do it also, but it will take much more time to dissolve the gold.

    Old dirty solutions

...and setting up a couple stock pots, ones been going for a few weeks. I opened another bucket today and found it was half full of boards in AP, I'm cleaning those and filtering that now. Hopefully it has foils in it when I get to the bottom. That one does test negative for any dissolved...

    Pin Problems

The issue here is as I see it that the part of the pins we would like to oxidize is protected by the Gold plating. The AP attacks the all the Copper but also the Ni and other metals in there. But usually we do not need to dissolve the whole pins the release the foils. This way we can avoid to...

New to GRF (gold refining forum)/ my introduction.

Welcome. Continue reading Hokes book and the Library. Regarding foils and AP. The AP is a bad name for the Cupric Chloride etch, so if you can elaborate how you do it, we can give some advice. The residues will usually be some remains from Tin and saturated Copper I Chloride from the Process...

    Any gold dissolved in HCl?

...ill do it tomorrow. I'll do it tomorrow with a small batch as an observation for getting an answer I was thinking about what dave said and I'm so happy that I have you guys with a lot of experience that you share with me. So there is a question in my head after that and it is how we use AP...

    Eco-goldex CYANIDE Leach

...Read Hoke and then read Hoke. Then read it again. Study how to deal with waste. Study safety. Once you've done that, try to understand the AP aka cupric chloride leach. If you have a question or want to try something out, ask us first...

    AP suitable components/material

While AP will work on both fingers and plated pins, I would keep them separate. The fingers will process quickly and release their foils because the copper underneath them is very thin and will dissolve pretty easily. Pins, on the other hand, have a lot of base metal compared to the thickness...

    Muriatic Acid turned Bluish green

Copper don't dissolve in HCl but with an oxidizer as Oxygen/air it do. This is the driver for the AP process. And the color is green. So if the Copper had a slight oxidation layer, the HCl would dissolve that.

Did some gold redissolve here? Why?

That's what I was told and read, however I used it. And All acids were neutralized , I made a solution of hcl and nitric acid to dissolve some ore , I over mixed the ratio of nitric, even added 1lb of smb to the solution of about 5-6 ml of solution, got no stanious test for anything, everything...

Did some gold redissolve here? Why?

...ammonia meaning there is other metals that were discovered and not known. Question what did you dissolve in the first place gold or chips, pins in ap or ar , ammonia, I tried it both in ar and ap and bleach dissolving ore,. Aqua Rega is mainly for disolving gold only after it's been turned...

    Let's start at the beginning

...without any solder and components is important as it makes recovery that much easier. Nothing wrong, excellent work! Start with the fingers in AP. Forget the peroxide part of it and use only HCL and air. The starter is a bit of oxidized copper in HCl and you're off. Ask before you start.

Citric acid method gone wrong maybe?

Could you share where got this method from? A link or piece of text would help a lot. I suspect a cheap substitute for AP. With possible nasty or unnecessary complicating side effects, why we usually advise against. So wrong process maybe?

Im sure i over paid! But tell me what you guys think about this ebay purchase!

It's supposed to arrive tomorrow around 1pm, so I'll probably be starting with an AP solution (I'm open for suggestions) as soon as it arrives. I already have some stannus chloride in the works, (I know I won't need it yet) but I have about a half gallon of hydrochloric acid, peroxide 3% and...
