Cupric Chloride leach, the name comes from Acid Peroxide from the time it started on this forum. No Peroxide is needed if you use air bubbling. There are many threads on this in the forum. Search and you will find.

    Black cloud in AP

...back maybe 20 minutes later and there was a black haze/cloud around the contacts at the bottom of the solution. What could this be? I believe I have added far too much HCL and H2O2 for the amount of contacts present, is it possible it is silver chloride? I gave the glass a swirl and it...

    Waste disposal questions

AP can be regenerated almost infinitively. Just add a bit of HCl and Air. SMB can't be used for waste treatment as far as I know. The two main steps are cementing on Iron to get the Copper out as clean as possible. Then dropping the Hydroxides if the other metals as per procedure. NaOH/KOH...

Rh and Pd extraction and separation

I will carry out this test and report it here, I will take a sample under moderate heating without O2 and we will see if a precipitate appears, it may work

    Processing sim cards

As per Palladium and others in this thread, NaOH dissolves the glue that holds the gold part to its plastic backing, and also causes the backing to warp and peel away, thus releasing the part. AR will dissolve any gold it contacts, while AP will only attack base metals which is not the goal here.

Help with potential profits of RAM scrap

I have the patience so that is not a problem yet, maybe later when scaling up but it's good to know what exactly happens so that I can anticipate and in the same time figure out all the ways so that I can become an expert as well. Putting it on heat might be another option but I first want to...

    Black cloud in AP

The non-magnetic contacts that were in AP, been in a couple of weeks and as far as I can tell, all the base metals have gone into solution. The solution is emerald green. On some of the contacts there is a waxy grey/purple material that can be scraped off. Any idea what this could be?

Need help with sorting and seperation

...is always some plastic that gets mixed in with my pins. I just pick out the larger peices of plastic and other unwanted material. Then process the pins..even if they contain some bits of plastic. I use AP....I just throw a bunch of pins in a bucket, put a lid over it, check on it in a few days.

Unsure where to take this next.

...Just because clear water does not mean you washed all the salt out. Then go nitric route like starting over again with nitric only. The remainder powder solids I would still treat with lye and sugar, thinking you may have possibly converted some to silver chloride with air bubbling through...

Three nines possible with Poor Man’s solutions?

Poor mans Nitric means making it by mixing the Nitrate and the Sulfuric, then either freezing it and removing some of the salts and using it as is. Or Distilling it and get pure acid. When we use AP it is just straight forward and no need for extra steps, and it do not create Metastannic acid.

An example of gold plated pins/connectors is shown in photo 1. An example of fingers (edge connector) is shown on the edge of the white-colored board in photo 2. With respect to your questions of AP and AR, I will leave that to the pros here.

    Aquarium bubbler for my AP

If it does not clear up and turn green with the air in a couple of days, add a bit HCl to convert the copper 1 chloride in copper 2 chloride. Be sure to place the air pump above the jar to prevent a siphon effect if the pump fails.

This is the most important point in the long run. The more ways we know, the better chance of being successful.

    Removing silicon die ceramic ic

It truly amazes me how individuals process gold and other metals. I sit and read and read and read how people process PGM's. If it be computer scrap, karat gold, and even ore. By means of nitric acid. AP, sulfuric acid stripping cell, etc. It truly amazes me. Be safe.

    Thoughts about stripping/deplating circuit boards.

The stripping cell is not suited to depopulate as it will foul quickly. Better depopulate with other means. I'm still not convinced it is a good idea for whole PCBs.

A new, efficient way to search

I’m thinking more along the lines of poormans nitric and/or poormans AR. Although an easy to find explanation of using proper methods for AP would be good also. The nitric has been explained many times, both butcher and Lazersteve gave easy to follow posts from several years back. Maybe some...

Separating Gold Precipitate from Base Metal Precipitates

AP is actually a Cupric Chloride etch and need no Peroxide at all. All you need is some Copper, HCl and Air(Aquarium bubbler). Amd you ar right, your Gold is in the gunk in the bottom as it cements out on the base metals. Your first mistake was to not separate the magnetic from the non magnetic...

I love this forum , sometimes I spend days going down rabbit holes and learn different approaches , methods, etc . I would like to ask about or clear up a topic that I thought Harold mentioned that once AP/ Cu ( II ) Cl2 becomes saturated with iron it can dissolve silver . I think he boiled...

Help with potential profits of RAM scrap

I'm not knowledgeable on dissolving gold into solution intentionally. I have put gold into solution "AP" by adding to much of peroxide. Some say it won't, some say it will. I'm voting on " it will" IF you add to much.

    Critique / discuss electrolytic methods

...the process may benefit from bagging the anode to collect what drops off, in a beaker this may be a moot point but in a larger tank with bigger anodes and cathodes the anodes will be better off bagged. As far as purity it will be no more or less pure than collecting foils from the AP process.

Step by step instructions for AP processing circuit boards

I have been thinking on the cement mixer/ AP drum. With a way to bubble air into it, maybe a rotating connection(?), this could be a great way to do some materials and pins. It made me think of the rotating plating barrels, maybe a larger version even boards could be run at times? Anyone else...

Separating Gold Precipitate from Base Metal Precipitates

Hello, everyone! I'm new to gold refining, and for my first experiment am doing a small batch of about an ounce of gold filled scrap (1/5 12k, 1/10 10k, 1/20 10k, etc) which I unfortunately did not check for steel/tin content. I decided to use the AP method but used 20-30% H2O2 with it (Pequa...

I didn't realize there was nitric in it. But re-using acid that still has life is quite common for recovery purposes. It's just important to make sure you aren't using high ORP waste.

...interested in this idea as a way to save on HCl and keep the volume of solution from growing ever larger. If the acid is used on magnetic e-scrap pins, it will create Iron Chloride as well as the Copper Chloride. I'm wondering if the electrolysis would remove both Iron and Copper from the...
