I found a 4lb container like the one pictured for $22 and $12 shipping on Ebay.

Can anyone suggest a good source with a better price?

Thanks - kadriver

I forgot to add that this is detergent for cleaning lab glassware. Dish washing detergent may leave a residue that could interfer or even ruin some chemical reactions. Alconox does not leave any kind of residue according to the manufacturer.

Maybe one of these places is close enough to pick up, and save you shipping?

Great product for glassware. Standard in labs for many years. I think they took it off the market because of the phosphates. Rinse well and wear gloves.

If you really have a stubborn stain, it will usually come off with hot aqua regia.

Also a well known way to clean old glass like old soda pop bottles is to use a tumbler or ball mill without the balls and use sand in place of balls. You can do just the inside of them too, they come out like new. More useful for hard to get at places as it may take 2 days to get it all clean. By the way, if all you have is a steel ball mill, you will have to put the glass inside a plastic container then place that in your ball mill.

I have used sand mixed with "Greased Lightning" to get inside narrow areas and inside round flasks.

I fill it about half full of sand, add a small amount of GL, then shake vigorously for several minutes.

It really gets the insides clean as a whistle.

I have a double neck round flask that did not respond to the sand treatment, I'll try the boiling aqua regia and see if that will remove the stain.

Thanks!

I've been using Alconox. It works very well, but I also remember reading something Harold wrote about using Bon Ami. Does anyone know which Bon Ami product he was talking about?

Here is what I have (bought at Bi-mart) in the cleaning isle.

I have not tried it but I keep wondering how it would work as a flux ingredient, looks like it may work for some cases.
