Would the use of a ultra sonic bath aid in removing foils from fingers during the AP process?
I'm not saying to create the reaction in the machine just simply submerging the bottom 1/3rd of the mason jar.

Waste of time or time saver?

Thanks, Derek

i had the same idea, and it was not effective, i could only run my sonic cleaner for four 480 second intervals before i had to unplug it and let it cool down, i used a plastic container and it seemed to have no effect, another draw back was i had to do a small batch, i ended up scrapping the idea, and puting together a set up similar to that in lazer steves video, but if you try it with the mason jar and get results, let us know!

Plastic considerably absorbs the energy and dampens all the action. Glass will work. However, none of those cheap units for home use are strong enough to do much. A powerful ultrasonic tank is quite expensive. In the 70s, we paid about $1200 for an industrial strength Branson that only held about 5 liters, if I remember right. It would even remove the "permanent" ink identification markings on white side-braze CPU packages. You could still read the letters and numbers as they floated on the surface.

Using sonic vibration gets the reaction going quickly. I let the water in my unit heat up to 60 deg C and insert the gold/AP container (formerly used for protein powder), and sonicate for 10-20 minutes, and then put it aside until I'm ready to add more peroxide, when the process is repeated.

This eats up a lot of peroxide, so I'll probably install a fish tank aerator.

Incidentally, the stainless steel tank in the sonic cleaner works well with organic acids (citric / lactic / gluconic / ascorbic), so it may be useful in one of the final steps in washing gold powder.
