Just calculated it: iron sulfate hexahydrate stoichiometrically has 21.4% iron and 12.3%sulfur in it, so i guess it's safe to try.
I think most dissolve the copperas before use.
It did work. The catch is if you find a bag it will be really old. They renamed it a few years ago to Iron Sulfate, and it should be what your looking for. With that said, it still works as well or better than the older Copperas but I feel the age has more to do with why it works slightly better.
And, even then a tech grade Copperas would most likely work even better, but I haven't used them.
