a trip to the scrap yard may net you one. ask if you can remove one from a whole unit that comes in. you have to pay for it by the pound but its much cheaper than buying a new or used one someone is trying to sell for cooking.

That's a great idea to use a steel plate as a heat spreader on top of your electric burner.

I think I'll try that.
