The basic design of the converter comes from nature in the form of a honeycomb, which provides a strong structure and a stable foundation for the converter. The honeycomb shape, made from either ceramics or stainless steel, also provides more surface area where chemical reactions can take place. This core or substrate gets a washcoat consisting of a mixture of alumina and silica. This further increases the surface area by providing a rough or irregular surface, which has more available places for metals to adhere to than a flat surface. The catalyst itself has two blocks. the first block contains platinum and rhodium the second block platinum and palladium. they are applied to the core during the washcoat. Platinum, palladium and rhodium are the three precious metals used most often. Are you trying to coat ceramics with PT?
