Does anyone know what will take colloidal gold stains (purple) off of various surfaces? I've got numerous counter tops and such with small purple stains from my gold experiments. I'm looking for some sort of solution that will allow me to just wipe them up with a little elbow grease.

Steve,

Can you tell me what material your counter tops are?

Some kinds of stone will just soak up the stain and not be removable with out sanding/buffing and then polishing again. Sometimes all it takes is a little toothpaste.

The newer products/synthetic based like Corian are easy to sand and polish.

If you are in Fla and have cochina tops it's gonna take some work. That stuff is pretty porous and absorbs the stain fairly deep.

I'd say just do more experiments all over the counter and stain it some more then finish it. heh heh. LOL

Another bet might be to identify your tops and call a local counter top contractor

It's not stone, I would guess it's formica in the bathroom and hard painted plaster on the bar. I want to avoid sanding if possible.

With formica you will most likely not be able to remove the stain. I've been around that product for many years and haven't yet seen a remedy. The best for that is replacing it. Can be done fairly easily and cheaply on a weekend.

For the bar top I'm stumped. Is it the same one in your tutorials that you put the cardboard over??
