Hi everyone, thank you for sharing your expertise so freely. I know next to nothing but have a stack of hard drives, cpu's and circuit boards that I can't wait to experiment with. I loved chemistry in college (especially lab)! I'm reading through the book by Hoke now as directed to do! I will do my best not to ask any of those questions that will get me banished.

It is not about asking which may put people in troubles here.
Nobody got banned just because they asked something. The way how people ask and how they respond to replies to their question was problematic with some individuals. I was asking a lot at the start and you should do it too. If your question will be one of that which were covered many times already you will be pointed to, or advised to look for an answer.
With plenty of reading available to you or anyone here, most of question you want to ask right now will disappear.
So do not worry about asking and take all answers with understanding that nobody wish you or think about you anything bad, they just try to help you, even if it will not look like that.
