I think I have the same problem as the guy who bought a 600gram piece of cpu pins that were melted along with everything else.I try to stay away from those because you can get scammed over and over since no gold content will show up. In this case I couldn't help but straighten it out but I am unsure what to do. I believe the best step would be to re-melt the nugget and use a pot of cold water in stainless steel so I can string it back out so it will dissolve better. Next I am stumped as how to fix the problem but I am about to place a chemical order so I can order anything I don't have. I also have a couple of large beakers that I can use an aquarium pump and air stone to help it along to dissolve. If anyone knows where I should go from here please tell me.

It depends if you have enough material to pay for the re-melt and acids.
Consider it as a very low yield material.

In the case you have enough: re-melt in shoots, AP to remove base and troublesome metals and you would be left with just gold [stt]foils[/stt] powder.

In the case you don't have enough material then just trow it in your stock pot.

you will spend more on electricity for your air pump then what its worth.
chemical costs will put you in the hole.

a good place to go from here would be "square one" & read my signature line

Thanks; I guess you can tell I am still new at this but I try my best to keep my reading up and I have collected enough materials so that I can try a few small experiments to get my confidence up. I am ordering my nitric acid today. I found out that when you need it you need the right stuff. I can still mix up some Muriatic and peroxide, wouldn't want to dissolve my gold again, lol. Thanks for the heads up and I'll let you know how it goes

Muriatic acid and peroxide will dissolve gold if mixed incorrectly

You can't get the foils back if you have melted the metal. It's an alloy now and any gold will come out as fine dust, basically the same way as the precious metal slime from an electrolytic copper cell.

When I got a piece of melted pins a year ago (found one I melted myself 30 years ago) I put it in the stock pot and a year later it is gone. All that is left is the black sludge at the bottom and I get the little gold there were when I process the stock pot.

I strongly recommend to use it in the stock pot as it will take a lot of acids to dissolve everything but the gold. You could easily spend more on acids than the gold is worth. You know how much it weighs then you can calculate how much acid you need to have to dissolve it and the cost. Is the gold inside worth that much or will you get more gold if you just bought gold instead of acid?

Oh no another member who needs to stop and do some real research here where the real answers are available.
Leave all your material alone and study, the gold if any, will still be there but you won't end up with a mess of residues and chlorides that will have you spinning your wheels for months to recover any values.
Blunt, unkind perhaps, but honest, your choice but if you proceed dont expect much help with your mess, it's been covered dozens of times and doesn't need any more forum space to help you.

You wont need nitric acid at all. For foils or powders use regular household Clorox.

If I come across what I wrote I would be the first one laughing, hope you had a good laugh  thanks for the correction I'll ask someone to pull my ears he he.

...my first thought was "Oh no, and I thought Marco knew this stuff." then "Now people are going to think you could just melt the pins and separate it by gravity." and I just had to make the correction.

Well, we both got a good laugh out of it.
