Heres another newbie question......do I need to grind the ceramic cpu's before placing them in AR? I thought I saw a thread that recommended this, but I also read that acid processing would also do the trick without grinding (hope ya'll don't mind these questions......I AM doing the reading too)

I find breaking them into three of four pieces is good enough. The main thing is to remove the bottom plate and break the cpu so the core chip (the little mosaic piece in the middle) is exposed on a few sides.

To this day I have never seen a single gold wire embedded inside of a ceramic cpu package. The gold is on the legs, lid, top (if gold plated), bonding wires (some are aluminum), package lands ( where the bonding wires attach), and under the circuit die ( braze).

There are some epoxy encapsulated and BGA fiber components that have some gold plated traces inside the layers of the housing package.
