After chemically depopulating circuit boards or ram, how do you sort out the MCC's from the surface mount
resistors?

Sitting there picking them out with tweezers would take forever.

Cheers,

Mike

If you depopulated them using HCl I would keep them together. They are almost made of similiar material (Ni,Ag,Pd) and some copper and tin.
I have a little box for such batches - true e-scrap. Save the time an have them sold or processed together.
You can seperate the batch by using a neodyme magnet to part components with high and low nickel content, regardless wheter capacitors or resistors.

Marcel,

Danke!

I didn't know that the capacitors and resistors were of similar composition, so I've learned something
new from you.

I really hadn't paid that much attention to them until now, but I'm planning to depopulate about
30 lbs. of ram sticks with Sodium Nitrate, and I thought this would be a good time to start saving
the MCC's.

And, thanks for all the great posts you've done on the GRF-----they're most appreciated.

Cheers,

Mike

While the resistors and capacitors are of different materials and construction, the plating of the connectors (ends) can be similar in that there are several layers of different metals that protect the component and make it possible to solder to the board.
