Hi All,

First off, Wow!!! what a wealth of information! I appreciate that all of you knowledgeable folks are so willing to share, thank you for being so generous.

For a newbie like me, it is too much information at once, so I'm going to ask for some SIMPLE, BASIC help. I majored in biology in college, so I do have some basic lab experience, but I'm rusty for sure.

I bought a small storage area at auction, and it contained about 5 bags full of jewelry, labeled "costume". After searching those bags, i recovered 3.5 troy of .925 silver and about 6 grams of marked 10k & 14k gold earring and necklace pieces. The rest really is costume, and after sorting the trash out, I have 1/2 of a gallon ziploc bag of mixed jewelry to process. It is MOSTLY costume crap, but there is lots of plated, and I am pretty certain that there are a few pieces of 10k and 14k "real" jewelry mixed in, such as earring backs and stems, small pendants, pieces of broken chains, etc. The total quantity is 5 lbs.

What is the best process for a newbie to process plated jewelry?? I have no chemicals or equipment at this time, I am starting from scratch!

Thanks in advance!

The best way to start is download CM Hoke book on refining precious metals and get a good understanding of what is involved. Then search the forum for your type of scrap and then post question here and you will get any question answered.
Welcome to the forum and have fun.
Ken
ps the book is a free download here.

I've searched for the link to Hoke download and can't find it!!

Do you have a link?

BTW, I am also in Knoxville, I bought the storage locker in Powell.
