Usually you don't have to heat it, in fact I can't think of a time when I ever have.

Hcl+cl until the gold is dissolved, at the very least. Most leave it in overnight, to let the chlorine dissipate, so the SMB doesn't have to fight it.

What are you trying to dissolve? Maybe if you could fill us in to what you have done so far, we could offer better advice. If you are dissolving foils, just leave it long enough to dissolve all of the foils. Then filter any solder mask or other trash out of it and let it set in a safe place for about 24 hours. Dilute the solution with three parts distilled water and then you can add the precipitate. :|

EDIT: Sometimes it's okay to heat the solution slightly to help dissipate the Chlorine.

let the filter dry completely and the foils should release. turn upside down on a sheet of paper and tap the bottom with your finger, almost all the foils should release leaving (perhaps) some really fine particles trapped. this filter can be placed with your filters to be burned for later processing.

you can, but the filter will retain liquid even if you squeeze it out. if you do use hcl/cl will filters, keep the filters to process later because it will still be holding gold.
