Hi,
I started with 100g of gold filled jewelry and have reached the final stage. I've been following Steve's final wash process. I completed three boiling water rinses and two rinses with boiling muriatic acid. After letting it settle I noticed the gray layer shown in the picture. It is lighter than the gold powder and rests on the top. What is it and what is the best way to get it out? Thank you for your help.

John

It's silver chloride and is an indication you did not filter your pregnant gold solution properly. Redissolve the gold powder and filter the gold solution until it is 100% transparent and free of all sediment.

Thank you for your answer Steve. So you're saying HCl / Clorox again and then proceed from there as before with better filtering, right?
