How do I find purity of gold dust while buying?

Hello People,

Can someone please help me with a process to identify the purity percentage of gold dust while being bought from Mines/Dealers? I use Nitric Acid for removing impurities and use magnet to remove any metals. However, last time the gold I bought was only 903 purity but they claimed it to be of more than 916 purity when I was buying (felt a bit cheated) . Can someone please help me with the topic so to be sure of the purity of gold dust before I buy?

Outside of refining it, about the only way you'll really know is to melt it, take a pin sample or drillings, and fire assay it. Trust no numbers but your own.
