All,

I have tried smelting shredded boards with an induction furnace, worked rapidly, however the price for it is 46 times the gas furnace unit I found today in a shop. This gas furnace is used to melt gold or copper for casting, would it be able to smelt shredded boards and produce that refiner bar?

Thanks
Kevin

Kevin,

Induction Melters can be very fickle at times. I have two smaller one which I can melt up to Rhodium which is around 2100C. Gas is always going to be cheaper but lots of issues which you are not asking about. The fumes are going to be a major problem. I am no refiner just a Jewelry MANUFACTURER but suggest you strongly look at your plans. From what little I know, throwing a bunch of boards in a gas melter is not the final results that you are looking for. I am sure that the Experts will chime in and give you better advise than I can.

Dan,

Thanks for your response. I have tried smelting with induction with great result, the pulp contained no traces of precious metals, all the ICs were turned to fine powder and no metals inside of them, all smelted.
But gas furnace with air blower can certainly melt copper, does it have the same effects on metals inside the ICs?

Regards,
Kevin
