We have had our fair share of older members who exuded their sense of entitlement as well! I think it's more of a human nature thing. Personally I am appreciative when I learn something new from the forum or anywhere, I would never approach a situation with the attitude something is owed to me. That just ensures you will get less.
I completely agree.
Any day I learn something new is a good day.

I like learning. I think that is why I never skipped a day of school, ever. I don't watch videos for entertainment, but to try and learn something. I do watch movies and most of those have very little, if any learning value. Something the wife and I do together. But I have been called weird more than once,😳

In my eyes nerd and weird are strikingly close to badges of honor.

I feel this is another I’m a professional chemist so I know more than you lot do…..except refining chemistry doesn’t always follow written and accepted doctrine, ie HCl does not dissolve gold but it does whether the text books says it does. I feel he might be feeling butt hurt dealing with unprofessional chemists who could run rings round him in the recovery and refining world.

Haven't you mod chaps got your own place to have a natter? Haha it's fun watching you have a chat together though.

Jon we need to be as open as possible so the membership understands why we make decisions and what the outcome is.
The loss of one new member who gets butt hurt over the fact we didn’t faint over his qualifications really won’t hurt the forum or it’s members, you come to a new place and try to be “look at me and how clever I am “ doesn’t go down too well with anyone, we might not be as “ educated “ as the OP but I could guarantee most here could run rings round him in recovery and refining.

The purpose of this post was an introduction, which I would not have written at all until I was asked.

Why do you interpret listing my job history & education as "look at how much better I am than you"? It's common way for people to introduce themselves in a professional setting.

I don't care if you have a phd or are just some guy without a highschool dipolma doing experiments in their garage. Both can produce good science.

I understand this community has several life times worth of experience in this area, which is substantially more than I have.

Why not wait and let me reveal my level of competence through productive discussions in the appropriate parts of the forum, and judge me after you more information than a single post?

I find some of your attitudes similar to academic professors, who become aggressive & entitled as they act exclusively within their knowledge domain.

Others, I find to be to fair minded and well balanced.

Thanks to those who genuinely welcomed me.

We build up credibility over time as members. Whilst rudeness to a new member is churlish, in most cases it's merely bluntness.

You start with zero points in credibility, just like I did, and as every member/mod did. So at that point, your judgement of the replies isn't of concern to anyone but yourself.

You bit at someone I consider to be one of the most reasoned and experienced men I know in this industry and whilst he is more than capable of defending himself, it irks me that he needs to.

There are actually quite a few long standing members here who had a rocky start but now are welcome active people.

It would be great for you to be another one.

Jon

Yeah I hear ya nick. I was merely chuckling about the intra mod convo that evolved.
