Hi.
I appoligise for a newcommer question ,but here it is.
I was scrapping some routers yesterday and found theese boards, but is it really gold plated or just looks like it?
Second pic its the antenna connections that seems to be gold plated.
First pic its the soldering points that looks to be plated.
What do you guys with experience think?
Is it worth to keep for future or is it just low grade board scrap?

depends on how many you got... those antennae connectors are gold plated, but probably not much more than 30 micro.... If I had a pile of them boards, i would rip the connector off and save the pile to have it refined when i get a big enough lot of plated material to send out (or self refine if you so choose). I would rip off the big ceramic chip and save them as well... the rest of the board i would leave and sell to boardsort.com (or whatever place that is close to you that gives a good price for greenboard)... that is just my two cents :)

When you make a statement like this you should clarify it. A micro meter is allot different that a micro inch.

30 micrometers= 0.00118110236220472 of an inch
30 micro inches = 0.000030

quite a differences in thickness.

this is a good chart for this http://www.metric-conversions.org/length/microinches-to-microns-table.htm

Also 30 micro inches is a good thickness this is what is on most quality header pins and fingers.

you are absolutly right eric, thank you for catching that... one of those cases that I know what I'm talking about and just assuming everyone else knows what I am saying... Gets me in trouble with the little lady all the time! :p

and I did not mean that it was bad that it was 30 micro inch, just that being newer equipment, it probably was not much more than that. But most definitely worth saving. I would take 30 microinch plated stuff all day long if i could! :)
