You can use even SO2 for your recovery process. I think that the word META is useless here. Maybe i am wrong, because i always used SMB.

Hi all,
The reason to use a sulfite is to produce so2 gas to precipatate the gold.
Sodium sulfite can be used. Sulfates won't produce the gas needed and
may cause an uneeded reaction. Thought i would put in my 2 cents.
Our top notch chemists could tell the reason sulfates don't work!
