Anyone with some experience about an old mass spectrometr ? It's a fairly large thing.

If it's a permanent magnet type, the magnets are very powerful. Don't get any tools around it. It will sure take a wrench out of your hand.

If you've got one, and manage to get it going in your garage, don't post here about it, or you'll be inundated with samples! :)

The beast is not working anymore. Even if it did I doubt I'd be able to read the plates (it uses glass plates). It must have been built around the '60 or so.

I was thinking more about any PM that could be found. Something like "that certain part is made of pure gold", rather then the usual stuff (relays, gold plated contacts etc).

I can't take it away unfortunately, even if I would like it. It must weight well over 500 pounds in total. I must go there, scavenge the good stuff and leave. In a matter of weeks the "real" scavengers will come, looking for iron and copper.

A make and model number would go a long way towards determining if it's got anything valuable in it.

Well,

If I knew I would have posted it.

I was hoping someone opened one of these things and give me some ideas about where to look (the technology is the same so the parts must be similar)
