I was in Lowe's the other day and stopped through the paint dept, they have what they advertise as a "green" muriatic acid. I couldn't see in the container to see if it's green colored or if they are just tyring to jump on the green wagon by marking it "green". What stood out the most on the label though was that it advertised 90% LESS FUMES than regular HCl. It was also marked 20 baume, 31% so it should be perfect for what we use it for, unless it's really green. If somebody get's back there before I do, pick some up and let me know if it really has less fumes. I believe it was a little higher in price than the other HCl on the shelf but for less fumes, I'd pay it!

It is HCl with buffers. It may or may not work for your applications. I would guess that it would work slower. Sounds interesting, though.

I also left Lows with a gallon of "Safer Muriatic Acid" by "Kleen Strip Green"
90% less fumes.
I can't for the likes of me find anything on the bottle or the website as to the strength of this stuff.

I havn't had a chance to try it yet, I did find some stuff at another place called Rural King, that was identical to what Lows used to sell for half the price, $3.99 a gal.

Keep in mind that by adding buffers, you're instantly adding unknown contaminants to your solution. Something about this just rubs me the wrong way. If the fumes are reduced that much, there is a significant amount of some compound that isn't HCl in there.
