Moring All - While working on a solution for a solution ( :?: :?: :shock: ) I discovered this, well not so much discovered, more like a penny dropped :lol:

2 CuCl2 + SO2 + 2 H2O → 2 CuCl + 2 HCl + H2SO4 (wiki)

Now could this be a solution to some of your waste solutions?

It costs me NZ$27 for 2lt of 27% HCl.

My thought here

2 CuCl2 + SO2 + 2 H2O → 2 CuCl + 2 HCl + H2SO4

Here in this formula both HCl and H2SO4 are soluble acids, some copper I chloride may also again form soluble CuCl2 and CuSO4 in the acidic solution, it would also take a lot of SO2 gas to precipitate all of the copper I chloride.

CuCl2 + H2SO4 --> CuSO4 + 2HCl (both soluble)
CuSO4 (s) with 2HCl (distilled off)

CuSO4 + Fe --> FeSO4 (copperas) + Cu (metal powder)

CuCl2 + NaHSO4 --> CuSO4 + NaCl + HCl
HCl distilled, as salts NaCl is more soluble than CuSO4.
