a jeweler friend of mine recently told me he has around 30 oz of old jewelry that contains mercury. Because of this he says refiners won't take it. He said its mine if I want it but I am not sure what to do with it. Anyone here ever work with it. Thanx

Go to youtube and type in The Tube Retort. Do everything outside and stay upwind. The tube has to reach 600 degrees cel and will need to stay at that temp for some time so do not hurry process.
This will also work with gold sulfides such iron pyrite which can contain from 0% to 50% gold.
