What I understand, and have read here somewhere, gold can migrate, in to the copper, on older pins without nickel layer between. To what extent can this happened and what timespan are we talking about? Could a stripping cell be the wrong treatment for such pins? In other words. Can gold migrate in to the copper, to such extent, that a stripping cell do not reach it?

It will reach anything on the surface. But to get it all it may be better to melt it and use as a Cementing bar.

For copper pins. Use as cement copper is a good way to get at it all. Or if in a hurry, run them in a sulfuric cell. Then melt the remains and run in a copper cell. This will give up the remaining values in the slime and give you a higher grade copper for later use.
