Hi all..

So here is my de-plating cell ...

sam2254u.jpg

I ran about 500g of plated stuff (board pins.. jewel..) The cell worked good.. (well i think) i did all the process on 12V.. the only weird issue i had is my amp reader dint read amps at all .. taught by adding plated stuff to the solution.. amps would go up ?? but else than this issue all the process went good and smooth..

My solution now.. as i don't have access to lab product .. i went to Rona in the Drain section and buy a Bottle of Albert.. i searched for the MSDS... here it is.. also i give a call to the number and ask the owner about whats was in this bottle exactly and he told me it was only sulfuric acid.. and ask him why than it was greenish solution.. he told me was only some colorant.. and it have no smell..

So once i done my process i putted a cover over the cell and left it outside to let the powder settle down.. now it been 2 days and here a picture .. it look like it wont settle down...

Is your amp meter in Series with the load and the leads changed to the correct location on your meter, and the meter set on DC amps?

I can't help your other problem (still learning)

Have you looked on the bottom of your dish ? Some drain cleaners have additives that look that colour. Your powder may be down, you just cannot see it due to the heavy dark colour. I would carefully decant the solution with a suction bulb and see what on the bottom of the dish. It should only take a few minutes. Try not to disturb any thing that may be on the bottom while doing this. You can try filtering the decanted liquid through a tight fiber glass plug filter, several passes may be necessary through the same filter. See what you get ! My guesstimate is your gold is on the bottom of your dish. Remember 500g of plated could yield less than a gram. Let us know how it goes.

i can see powder for sure.. some (most of it) is in the bottom .. but some seem to get stuck on top and in middle of solution.. the solution look a little sticky.. like the glycerin i added ..

now i taught i could use a turkey suction pump.. but i look like it will be impossible.. and i have nothing to filter.. thats why i taught adding water could liquify the solution..

could coffee filter be good ? or what else can i use to filter that like house stuff or mabe at the market ??

The glycerin isn't required.

Allow the solution to settle for 24 hours then follow these directions when you are ready to clean the cell (I would run more plated scrap before cleaning if I were you).

Black Powder from the Cell

ok ill try that..

as i dont have a big enough flask or beaker.. can i use a plastic water bottle .. i have a 4L one .. so i can mixt the acid to water ?

fiberglass.. i looked into google.. the only thing that i have is the one in my wall.. could it be good lol ... its the pink one

do not use plastic containers with concentrated sulfuric acid. if you dilute the acid with water, the powder will settle in a few hours instead of days. WARNING : never add water to acid. add acid to water slowly in small increments. there will be an exothermic reaction, and the solution will build heat quickly. it could reach the boiling point of water, so add slowly and check the heat build up frequently. stop adding when the container gets hot and wait for it to cool before adding more. add all acid and powder to 3L of water (for 1L of acid) and mix well. wait 24 hours. liquid should be dark green. powder will be settled and solution should be crystal clear. siphon down close to the powder, stop short of the powder and add more water.wait a couple of hours until the solution is clear and repeat until water stay clear after a couple of hours of waiting. the original solution you siphoned off can be evaporated and re-used. as you evaporate back to its 1L volume, green copper sulfate crystals will form. when the 1L volume is reached, the solution will be a yellow - gold color. let solution cool and decant to a clean container. re-use solution in the next batch. the last few rinses should be neutralized and discarded.

ty geo :)

ill do that.. i worked with 500ml of acid.. ill try to get a big glass jar to work with :)

Not a problem, Dlog Renim, I just want to ensure that you don't start using shorthand (texting lingo) on the board. If you want to say thank you, that's how it should be spelled, not "ty". It has the potential to confuse folks who don't use English as their first language, as well as some of us that spell words out completely. Personally, I'm offended by ANYONE who uses such methods when addressing the board. If they're too damned lazy to spell things out properly, why should anyone care enough to help them?

Thanks for your understanding. It's a pleasure to have folks respond positively to matters such as this.

Harold
