Well I checked on the crockpot yesterday and I am a bit discouraged. The acid is turning a nice green color but I still have a lot of pins that are not dissolved. Will the acid eat all metal besides the gold? This batch of pins was a mix of some completely gold plated and some that just had the tops gold plated. Did I do something wrong or do I just need to wait longer?

I have not been able to find the information I need. I am heading to the building here after while to check on the pins in the crockpot. It sure is taking a long time. It looks like some of the pins are just not dissolving.

Jackrabyt,

This process can take several days. The crockpot method works best with partially plated pins and fingers, the exposed areas allows the HCl to penetrate the pin and dissolve it away from the gold foil. Unless you want to dissolve gold using this method, DON"T ADD ANY PEROXIDE!! Patience is a virture.

Steve you are the man. That was what I was looking for. I was worried that I had not done something correctly by not adding the peroxide to the mix.
