While evaporating the solution you might try covering beaker temporarily with a barely damp filter paper, catch some fumes, test the filter paper with a few drops of stannous chloride.

I hope that works. I have added a filter paper over my pins in an AP solution, and will check it in the morning to see what happens. The condensate on the glass cover checked free of gold, so I tried a filter as a cover. I have just enough heat on to keep it from freezing. I checked it because I used tap water, which I know is fairly high in chlorine here.

We are talking about an AR solution not AP, but it is possible for AP to dissolve gold if there is a high strength peroxide used or high heat. If there is still base metals in the AP the Au would cement back out.

My AR treatment is still a few days away. My AP is leaning kind of heavy on chlorine, although the peroxide is a bit low, and I wanted to be sure, with the heat, it isn't loosing anything. The biggest thing I want to accomplish is the habit of testing every step. I am to new to this to leave it to chance. If I can form good habits early on then hopefully I can avoid headaches later.
