I am new to your forum, but not to gold. I have been buying and collecting the stuff for ten years or more.
I tried my hand at refining karat gold scrap, and have come to the conclusion that if you consider your time as money, you are better off to let someone else refine your gold while you locate and accumulate it.
It is fun as a pastime or a hobby, and you can learn quite a lot.
You learn that everything around you turns to rust. You have to work outdoors to keep from filling your house with acrid fumes. And you still wonder if that solution you threw away didn't have some PGM's in it.
