Test it to see, snip off a tiny piece and put it in HCl.Can anyone advise please.
I regularly find these older ribbon connectors in old pcs. Normally the tips of the pins have a tiny dot of gold, but these are fully plated. However, I’m not convinced this is gold as the metal has a slight greenish tint to it. Advice please.View attachment 64890
Not sure about the quality of the boards as I have stripped so many and stockpiled the connectors. I will try the HCL when I get a chance. In the meantime I have segregated all I find just in case there was a contamination issue later.Test it to see, snip off a tiny piece and put it in HCl.
If all disappears it is brass.
Is it from a good brand of boards?
I have seen fully plated connectors like this only on higher end boards. Not sure about the quality of the boards as I have stripped so many and stockpiled the connectors. Thanks for the advice.
I’ve seen quite a diversity in the gold content of connectors, but what puzzles me is the green tint. What could that be?I have seen fully plated connectors like this only on higher end boards.
