Today, I had one of those experiences nobody wants, but I think we all have had. I was processing a small sample with Aqua Regia and had filtered the acid. Being in a hurry, I disolved some sodium sulfite and proceeded to pour it into the acid. I got an immediate reaction of boiling and those wonderful red fumes. Yeah, I had forgotten to kill the nitric acid.
 :(

Lesson learned: Make a checklist including each step of the process you are working on. Multi-tasking is fine but it's easy to lose track. A simple checked box can keep you on track and possibly save a project, or prevent an injury.

Been there, done that. You have it in a catch basin ?

I learned early on that the proper size reaction container is a must.
I never fill a vessel more than 1/3 full. Even then, yes I use a backup container. Thanks.
