100 +/- grams of plated pins. They have a steel spring inside the shaft, otherwise I think they are gold plated aluminum

Cell or AP?

The thought of using a cell for this is daunting, any suggestions?

Take one and put it in HCL and see what kind of reaction you get and what color your solution turns. They could be aluminum but I don't think so odds are aginst it. They should be copper.

It looks like test probes from a circuit board tester.

They are most probably made out of gold plated nickel, beryllium copper or stainless steel.
At least I can guarantee that they are not made out of pure copper or aluminium, it is too soft.

For examples see : http://tciinfo.com/index/bare.htm
