Hello,

I have searched the forum and have found a wealth of information so far. I am trying to make my own acid tester for gold/silver and platinum because I will be collecting scrap metals and testing them. I figured I would rather make me own acid testers instead of buying them ready made. So far I have found this for the gold and silver:

10K - 22.2ml nitric to 7.4ml distilled water
14K - 23.7ml nitric to 5.9ml distilled water to 10 drops of HCL
18K - 5.9ml nitric to 5.9ml distilled water to 22.2ml HCL

for 22K i just used 1 part nitric to 4 parts HCL
Silver - 20 grams potassium dichromate - 22.2 mL nitric - 7.4 ml distilled water

68-70% HNO3 (Nitric acid) and 36% HCl (hydrochloric acid)

Does anybody know what acids and mL information I could use to test platinum? Also can I make these acids in batches as long as I keep the proportions correct?

How long do you think these would last? I read somewhere that a year would be the maximum amount of time and then read somewhere else that 4 weeks is the max.

Anyways I appreciate any input from the pros that are here.
