Greetings!
I am a multimedia artist/craftsman that's interested in learning how to best and properly refine metals.
I have quite a bit of old electronics and junk metal from which I would like to isolate and remove the precious metals.
Silver and gold are my primary targets.
I am here to learn.
I figure, if I get... say, 7+ people that reach out offering their help, I will upgrade to the premium.
Let's see how it goes.
Hit me up. Say hi.

Let me start off by saying that no one who contributes to this forum is in any way compensated for their technical knowledge, not our members or our moderators. So if you think that for one second you can dangle a carrot of becoming a premium member in front of us don't even think about it.

You have posted little specifics about what you want to refine so we cannot even point you in the right direction for you to do a search because all of the information is here on the forum. Since a renaissance man is a cultured man of the Renaissance who was knowledgeable, educated, or proficient in a wide range of fields, you sir have showed in your first post how uncultured you really are. I would not be holding my breath waiting for help. So either learn to use the search function of find a craft not involving precious metals.

Such a friendly welcome.
Let me first explain the "carrot" I'm apparently dangling. As I'm new to this site, I have not yet decided if it is worth the cost of joining. The way I decided to quickly gage the activity/value of joining was to set an interaction goal. I figured if I got 7+ people to reach out to me, that would indicate the members are active and willing to help someone like me. No intention of buying friends, memberships, favors or anything else.

As unjustifiably rude you are; it's obvious you're a miserable person that's looking to push others down hoping to make yourself feel like less of a troll.
But! You did give me some advice. At this point in the game I may be a bit too ignorant to ask intelligent questions; Leaving no intelligent answers available... just, well your response.
I'll keep learning with or without you.
Thanks for your response.
Btw, counting you as #1. 😉

Simply put, the members and mods of this forum do not receive any financial benefit for providing information on this forum. A few years ago, the forum was bought from a member and has been managed by a independent company. The membership fees go to this company and pay for the server upkeep and admin work.

If you wish to join, that is up to you. The ability to view the forum is no different, if you are a member or not.

As for professionalism, please remember that both you and I are guests here. Please be polite yet understanding that we have lots of people join with requests. A Mod, who volunteers his time to support this forum simply pointed out that your introduction lacks detail as to what we are looking for to assist you. If you do not provide specifics, no-one here can successfully assist you. So, take it with a grain of salt.

Also, since @4metals didn't mention it, you can start by reading Hoke's book, to which you can find a link in my signature. This is where you want to start your journey into precious metal refining. It will explain some procedures, safety issues, waste disposal, and other foundational topics. Also, just spend some time reading, there is decades worth of knowledge sprinkled in here, but much like panning for gold, it's up to you to find the flakes and nuggets.

Hope this helps, welcome to the forum. Feel free to send a message with any other questions you may have. I'm a chemist by schooling, but refine for fun (and my daughters college fund).

Thank you Elemental.

A couple things on professionalism, then I'll let it go.
Your message was straight forward, informative. And no personal attacks.
I've hosted many many volunteers over the years. I would never be okay with any of them saying: "you sir have showed in your first post how uncultured you really are."
Name calling?! In response to my first comment?
If this group is fine with trading common decency for free help; that may be fine for you, but not me.
I know there are jerks in every bunch and I know even great people have bad days.
I hold no grudge.
I've downloaded the book. Thank you again for that valuable bit.
Thank you again.

You nailed it, I spend every waking hour trying to throw members off track and slow their progress.

I'll keep learning with or without you.
At this point it will be without. Time will tell if 6 more members step up to help you. And if they do we will see if you are good to your word.

In short, there's plenty of help to be had here with the caveat that a lot of experienced members here really aren't into spoon feeding. If you do your own research and ask well thought out questions you will get help.

Viewing the library that 4metals and others painstakingly put together for the benefit of neophytes (and experts too, for that matter) would be a great starting point on your quest.
