smb question

So I was wondering if when you drop your gold using smb in a solution of HCL/cl and you add more smb then expected gold drop. How can you get rid of excess smb? Will hot water work after you filter and dry the au/smb powder. I haven't refined Amy au yet I just would like to know for future reference

when you add too much SMB, it takes forever for the gold to drop. add the solution to a heat resistant container and gently boil until the solution turns clear. your gold will be settled on the bottom. SMB decomposes fairly quickly when added to acidic solutions. its byproducts are SO2 (the gas that precipitates gold) and water soluble salt.

I was just wondering about that. I planned on weighing my dried dirty au before I refine it so I can do a correct 1:1 ratio with my smb but thanks for the speedy response

Remember, that you'll also need some stannous Cl for testing your solution after adding the SMB! 8)
