smoke in my cupel

Hello everyone
Quick question ?
I have been experimenting with yields on pins
I am attempting to figure out my before ,after,and
(Anywhere on the timeline) weight .I started will 150 pins .2grams each
I then melted In the cuple. I Will take the results to my guy to see what the percent of gold to weight is (also curious on weight lost)

Then I will do the A/P and HCl/bleach to refine
weighing at different times
Also will do Hno3 process
Q: when I was melting the pins directly with borax in my cuple the mix melted quickly but began to
smoke a lot even after holding it molten for 7 minutes.
What is causing the smoke

I would say it could be metals vaporizing off. Please don't breath these!

Now when you say metal vapor are you talking about
My gold

I read your link very informative thanks

Harold always said DONT BOIL! but I thought that
Was auricchloride gold in solution

Now I'm starting to think if the boiling poit is around
2500 c for Elemental. gold than I start vaporizing.

But then why now and not the other 5 times,maybe
the cu and other metals raise the temp

A whole lot of things start to vaporize off before your gold does. Like the lead, tin, copper, zinc, cadmium. and so on.
Could have been any of them.
