soda ash and silica

Hi

I am trying to remove silica from my tailing pile using soda ash ( sodium carbonate ). Please advise if soda ash is added DURING smelting process? or before smelting?

ok i found this formula for adding soda ash to silica, please advise if this accurate.


2Na2CO3+SiO2=2Na2O+Si+2CO3
