It can be done, but it is a bad idea if you do not know what you're doing or are dealing with impure solutions.


But what type of A/R solution are we talking of? Platinum, gold, palladium? What?


Again, please be more specific with which processes in particular you ask about!!

precipitating silver from what solution?
as far as I know caustic (sodium hydroxide) will precipitate most metals from acid but if too much many will dissolve in it. I see better methods for silver.
unless you are using caustic and aluminum to convert silver chloride,
you can use a chloride like table salt, or HCl to precipitate silver from silver nitrate solution, a pure copper bar works good also.
 
I do, if only seeking gold from your AR, you must slowly add it (NaOH in water) to the AR until just before a color change (turn cloudy).
