The stuff used in the pools (pH Down) is sodium metabisulfate, so can not be used for gold precipitation; however, it can be used to fuse Rhodium and to easily produce your own Hydrogen Chloride gas.

Sodium bisulphite=NaHSO3, reducer
Sodium metabisulphite=Na2S2O5=2X(sodium bisulphite)-(H2O), doing
same job
Sodium bisulphate=NaHSO4, mild acid, not a reducer (as mentionned)
