my stannous test is giving a strong red collor----i was testing for palladium----could this red collor indicate other metals? before testing for pd,gold was precipitated with smb and the solution gave purple(deep) collor with stannous-------

Hi Arthur.

Could be other members of the PGM family. They all give off colors with SnCl.

Boil+evaporate+add HCl x2
Add NH4Cl and let it sit for few hours to ppt any Pt/Rh/Ru/Ir, filter and test again.
 
thanks Steve and Samuel-------i did a test with dmg as recomended and it gave yellow pd glyoxime----so i did not need to do the procedure that Samuel recomended.
after filtrating the yellow pd glyoxime,i did a test with stanous and the result was blank----so the red collor with stanous was pd---thanks again
