I was in the business of selling sterling flatware that past few years and have ventured into other things recently, I have a decent amount of flatware left that I am going to send to scrap and just thought there might be some interest from someone on this forum. I know I can get 90% by sending it in, just wanted to shop it here first and see what you guys thought. I went through about half of it and I have about 700 ounces I'm ready to sell.

Pictures and brand names would be nice.

I can pictures if there is an actual interest, brand names include a lot of the popular patterns.

Wallace Rosepoint
Gorham Buttercup
International Prelude
Wallace Grand Colonial
etc.

I can give a complete list to interested parties

I am just looking for a little premium over what I could get at 90% scrap. There are several of the patterns that sell for more than scrap on eBay.

This would be a good April fools joke on me if I purchased 700 tr oz of sterling knives with filled handles. Pictures Please.

Can anyone confirm the reputation of Barren Realms 007 on this forum

Confirmed. I, personally, would deal with him. He's been on the forum a long time and I've heard no complaints involving any transactions he's made.

I don't know him , however, if you read a lot on this site. You will see him all over as well as him being very knowledgeable. My point being I don't think he would mess up a reputation on here for a sale. If that was what you were meaning. Take care- Andrew

If you can't deal with me in a professional manner then I don't have any interest.

By your own admission you already knew that some patterns sell for more than face value on ebay, you should also be very aware that buyers are paying for scrap gold and silver premiums well above spot.

Your first post to GRF offering $24,000.00 worth of sterling looks rather suspicious, at least a buyer using ebay to purchase precious metals has the option of using an escrow service for a small fee.

I myself personally use an escrow service to protect myself, now this is professional.

As for Barren Realms 007 I will vouch for him any day of the week as an honest business man with integrity, whereas of you I know very little. Do you have an ebay user id that we could reference. Mine is gustavus1 been an active member since June of 98 .

Best Regards
Rusty

Just because I am not an active member of this forum doesn't give you any indication of my honesty. I was asking for discussion on the group, do you really think I thought someone would just ship me 24k without any discussion or verifying me in any way ? I have been an active seller on eBay since 1998 and would disclose the name to a potential buyer.

I am well aware of what items sell for on eBay and wanted to give someone with more time than I have to sell the items on that site and make some profit. I see nothing suspicious about selling a large group at wholesale price.

hehehehe
sorry this comment struck me a funny.
Professional?
I have a car for sale. Do you want to buy it?
Of course you would want to see a picture, make , model, year, filled panels, or what have you.
Un professional people on this forum are quickly weeded out.

I think the margins are too high at 90-92% for knives your running a huge risk.

Because of the the stainless steel blade and the unknown weight of the blade and you don't know how deep the blade is
embedded into the handle also and the huge risk of the handle being filled, theres a good chance that in the 700 tr oz of flatware
that you will come across many of these variables. That's why I stay away from knives for these reasons unless they are going cheap.

Ive recently purchased approx 800g of Silver flatware, napkin holders, bowls etc for approx $180 they were a mixture of 800 and 925 with an average of say 850 silver, not a bad profit margin. Now off my small purchase ive already made nearly 1/4 of the profit you would expect to see on a 90% spot purchase but that is assuming that the 700 oz was all priced at 925, so the question is what factor should we weigh the stainless steel part of it in, if we say that the stainless weighs approx 20% average of the 700 tr oz then we now only have 560 tr oz of 925 silver which is worth approx $19,000. At a 90% spot price for Flatware knives you are taking a gamble especially if some of the knives are filled. Flatware fork & spoons are the choice purchase

Olelucky, As far as i can see you have not been disclosing everything, from your first post you should have stated that it is Knives only that you have and only deal in, theres a big difference in Sterling Flatware and Sterling Knives don't you think? You should have disclosed that these were all Knives. IMHO... reading through your posts i think you thought you would drop a quick line in this Goldrefining forum pond and see what you could pull out of it...
