Eric, I don't know if it was a Pyro-ceram, but, I had it for 2 yrs. and used it literally hundreds of times, even thru last winter, with no problems.
The big difference this time was thermal shock, due to the "wind tunnel effect" I had in the lab, (when using my new 6 inch extractor in the fume hood for the first time in such cold weather), sucked in too much cold air thru the roof vent. I used the dish earlier, (when the temperature was higher outside), in the day for several hours boiling the inquart; allowed it to cool enough in order to vacuum filter. By the time I started to heat the AR, it had gotten dark and temp dropped more than 10 degrees and the lab got very cold! As I realized that the AR wasn't warming up as usual, I felt the dish and it was cold; within 2 minutes, while I was thinking what to do, it broke!
So, on the next set-up, I'll use my white Corning with some sand, and will control the air intake.
I'm out of town, so I'll work on it when I get back!
Thanks!
Phil
