That rocks Geo. Do you have a fume hood to work in in the cooler months?

As being a young and reckless soul I tend to forget that to live long you must do the work early on. So I never cared about the NOx fumes, but I started to notice how they effected me when I would get a whiff when the wind would change and such. It would make me irritable and somewhat aggressive. I learned the other day that this is because NO introduced into the body it opens up blood vessels and increases bold flow to soft tissues. This is not inherently dangerous this happens with eating, Apiaceae family (celery, parsley, anise) plants, do to the fact that the have a high nitrate content in them. This is the reason that celery powder is used as a substitute of sodium nitrate in food preserving.
This is also how Viagra works it introduces NO gas into your blood in a controlled manner and causes your soft tissues to have increased blood flow.(I tell my wife this is why we have six kids. )

****I am not advocating using NO as a substitute to any drugs or prescriptions merely sharing information ****

I just built on that works better than expected. its small but its mainly for digesting silver while its cold. I will have to start a post on it when I get it cleaned up. the homemade smoke bombs I made to test it might of got out of hand.  But no smoke was in my garage. 8)

Take care

Eric

hey guys, i have some wonderful news. i went to my pulmonologist today for my 6 month checkup. the doctor was very pleased after my test came in and told me my lung function had improved. my last visit, it was at 36% and he was talking about a lung transplant. today it had improved to 52% and he said that the transplant wasnt even an option with it that good. he said that what ever i was doing, to keep it up. i didnt tell him what my hobby was. i have taken measures to improve my exposure to harmful vapors including fume control and better work practices. its showing in my improved health. im so happy, i just had to tell everyone.

That's great! I bet your family was pretty happy too! :D

Hi eric!
I'm posting some pic's of what I believe to be Ta. Please confirm.
Thanks!
Phil

The four shorter more cube-shaped devices in your hand (and those three on the green board marked with the Cx designations) appear to be tantalum capacitors. The one longer device in your hand appears to be a 200 Ohm Dual Inline Package resistor network. They typically contain several separate resistors wired side to side for example across pins 1+16, 2+15, etc. The skinny yellow devices in the third picture are all Single Inline Package resistor networks. Those typically contain several resistors that each have one side tied to a common pin at one end of the device.

Thanks macfixer01 For answering I've been a little under the weather today.

The only thing that I would add is on the first pic in the middle is a cap that is by the larger cube. If it is shaped like a balloon or As my daughter say like gold fish this could also be a Ta cap.

In your third pick with the network resistors in the middle of the two CPU sockets they look like can style Caps. The look to be Ta. If the have a solder joint on the lead after the cap is a Ta cap but take a pic to confirm.

Thanks for your interest

Eric

Couple more pic's.
Thanks!

Philddreamer,

What type of camera you're using? Your photos come out pretty crisp and clear, and especially the last set you put up.

Those boards look great. See on the caps the nipple that will always be a Ta cap.

Which ones are you talking about? Once I know for sure which ones are Ta I can scrounge up plenty of them with all the material I have. I've been following this thread since it started and once I know the definite ones, I'm going to get to work and start compiling them for you.

I may have overlooked it, but are you making bars or ingots with the Ta?

Kevin, check the one end on the cans that has a bit of solder coming out.

That's funny I asked my buyer if I should have them melted and he laughed in the phone and said I should just burn some hundred dollar bills the coast of the machinery is more than I would get back. Ta melts at 5463 Fahrenheit. That's pretty hot.

Thanks Phil for the close up photos on the Ta can caps.

Save them up and we can make a deal.

Eric

there are chemical ways to refine the metal but like Eric said, it has a high melting point. good luck on melting and pouring an ingot full.

a good way to test is to try and pinch it in two with diagonal cutters. if it barely dents the case, its Ta. if it squeezes flat, its aluminum.

there are Ta foil caps. i havent found a good test for those yet but im looking for one.

That's why I love this forum. I'm learning something new everyday here.

Thanks Eric and Geo for the info and Phil for showing me what to look for.

The best test is HCl if it Al or Pb it will react with it, Ta will not. If the can is Tantalum more than likely Tantalum inside as well.

By the end of this thread we should be experts on Tantalum capacitors.

have i been collecting the right ones ? if so pm me with price have 30 lb

I agree with you 100%. No doubt.

I do see that there are some of the square yellow ones on R.A.M sticks. Usually one per stick. Are these the Ta ones too?

I'm still looking at the photos so I can know exactly which ones are the Ta capacitors. I'll know soon enough which ones to get without asking much, if at all.
