Some of the common IC types and what's in them.

I'd love to pick your brain - I have tried.... 200g with straight AR and it was a nightmare. 1kg with AP, waited a month, got a ton of flakes, and re-ran the rest through AP... a nightmare. 100g or so at a time in small batches seems to be manageable but I've yet to get high volume down.

...your garage (& it's attached to the house) it is almost certain that those fume got sucked into your central air system & you now have corrosion happening inside that system (the ducting & the unit that circulates the air Once the corrosion starts you can't stop it - it's only a matter of...

Using Citric acid/sulphamic acid mixed with NaCl and O2 for base metals

What are you trying to accomplish with this experiment? You certainly are creating a lot of waste. I would go with AP, less hassle, less waste and less time needed.

    AP solution case

AP will not dissolve any Gold to speak of, so my guess is that those connectors was Brass and the boiling was the Zinc and Copper going into solution. And if you suspected Gold to be in solution, why in the world did you drop everything as Hydroxides in stead of Cementing on Copper?

    Chemicals(particularly HCL).in Australia

Hi, For AP solution I always use plain limescale remover HCl with a concentration of 20% with no other contaminants present, just plain old HCl. I found that this is more than enough for AP and is dirt cheap compared to higher concentration ones and is available at any small markets and...

Hmmm, I think you wait more than week to make HCl dissolve tin.

    Silver contact wastes minerals.

...Both of these posts were dropped from solution using zinc. This drop from solution and the other I did some looking around for images that appear like what I am looking at. Here are pictures and my guestimation of metals dropped from solution. At first I was thinking copper because of the...

    AP Colour Question

You need to be more specific. Bleach or Peroxide? And there is no need for anything else than HCl and bubbler for AP. Do not add anything else. Or maybe some green corroded copper. If any Gold dissolves it may cement out inside the PCBs and will be out of reach with conventional measures. And...

    AP Colour Question

AP will not dissolve any Gold to speak of. So there should not be any Gold in solution. There might be different Copper and Tin compounds though. The sands will be a mix of Tin and what ever foils whole or in powder from the PCBs. HCl and Peroxide 10% or higher will be fine for that. HCl and...

    Dissolving polyethylene

...that has thick gold plating and they break into several pieces after a few hits on each side. Breaking them into several pieces also helps the AP dissolve the base metals a lot faster. As far as the pins go I use flush cut shears (plato model 170 sd) to quickly cut the insulator alongside...

Step by step instructions for AP processing circuit boards

...new to refining could get into just to collect the foils for now and do so with minimal investment in hoods and exhaust? Obviously to process the foils later on into fine gold a hood is desirable but while a collection of foils is building up can a newbie do without a hood for the AP alone?

    Need information on acids

You do not need this kind if detail. For recovery you basically need the Cupric Chloride etch aka AP. For refining HCl/Bleach or better HCl/ Peroxide will do. Then SMB or any other Sulfite will drop the dissolved Gold as long as the solution is acidic.

    AP Colour Question

Hi Shark, As you stated the AP has now gone dark from a green/blue to a very dark blue almost black colour. Again, the advice you have given is exact to the letter. I will add some peroxide to activate for second batch of processing. Thanks Again, great experience great communications and...

    Rolled gold

Remove base metals with nitric acid or even hydrochloric if time is not an issue. If you have a few weeks to wait AP also known as CuCl2, will remove the base metals pretty well and leave the gold about 18k+ when not rushed.

    IC chips gold recovery

...so I just wanted that cleared up. Shredded materials are usually smelted, and no acids are used, hence no need for bubbling anything. Bubbling air is used in the Cupric Chloride leach (AP) for dissolving Copper behind Gold plated pins or "fingers" and such release the plating from the...

    This weekends project...6kg :-)

...and tried 1 - Boiling Citric Acid - didn't work, but I was using powdered citric and water, may get some lemon juice and try that next. 2 - AP solution - actually worked really well getting everything to foil, then a ton of water washes to get rid of the orange goo. Then dissolved in AP...

...come across quite a few bga tops with gold "flashing" on the inside, not sure if its flashing or plating but i do know that it flakes off whole in AP solution, definitely worth processing in my opinion, then i melted all the tops down after getting the gold and got about 10 punds of "dirty...

    Silver cement

...the rest as is. Then you sort your material and remove all Steel, Aluminum and plastics. Next cut all "fingers" close and you can process these in a Cupric Chloride (AP) leach. Dissolve the foils and drop as powder. If the chips are the correct type they will have more Gold than the plated...

    AP Colour Question

Interesting that a kind of drop/precipitation" may be occurring in the AP when excess HCL is present. Just to clarify Copper in solution can precipitate dissolved gold back out of solution to make brown sands which can be refined in AR. Is there any movement on purity of the gold after the...

Step by step instructions for AP processing circuit boards

...you got the gold and a little copper with it. From there a much smaller aqua regia dissolve will separate your values with considerably much less waste. Again this is just my perspective because I have only seen huge quantities of this material which takes an entirely different approach.

E-waste scrap in chemical to be processed

AP may leave some CuCl as mud and other crap. Add HCl and filter out any solids. The Gold will be in the solids. If you have used Nitric there can be Metastannic acid which is a nightmare to filter. The Gold from this, will be in these solids. How much material are you processing?

Is Sodium hydroxide best solution to git rid of tin and lead?

...seperate components, but whats next? I'm very confused about big boys advices of never use AR directly, I tested before the gold pins board in AP, more than week and I didn't get the gold foils, I think there is a thick Nickel layer under it. Regard the gold plated boards, both types...

    Waste disposal questions

No, cuprous chloride (A salt) is no soluble in water, but slightly in HCl. Cupric chloride however, is. Adding water changes the capacity of the solution to keep the salt in soluition. Adding air and HCl to cuprous chloride makes cupric chloride, which will oxidize copper into cuprous...

    Hydrogene Peroxyde

He is using HCl + H2O2 for his AP and HCl + bleech for the filtered foils. He was asking about the strength of the peroxide, which he does not need when using an air bubbler. His terminology is a bit off, but the basics are there i think. More studying needed though. I agree.

    Waste disposal questions

We do not do Alchemy so no. Copper(I) chloride CuCl (Cuprous Chloride) is practically insoluble in water so it will drop out if the HCl concentration becomes too low. With Oxygen and HCl it will convert to Cupric Chloride CuCl2 (Copper(II) chloride) which is soluble in water. I think Martijn...
