    Nitric Acid - cold temps

The only reason I was planning to do nitric leach is to avoid waiting weeks for AP. From what I've seen most people still have unreleased foils after weeks! I'm not in a rush - but I also would prefer a method that does not involve leaving chemicals out (for the most part) unsupervised for...

    Temperature

Are there any unforseen problems leaving my stockpot and my AP buckets (5 gallon buckets, each 2/3 filled) outside during the cold winter? They will be isolated, "double bucketed" and also enclosed in an outdoor covered bin (not heated) far away from the house and people?

    Processing sim cards

...even close to that number. AR was dirty dark green as expected as foils still contain a lot of copper and nickel. Maybe, if they would be left in AP longer or washed in hot nitric then they may get cleaner but that seems to be extra step which is not really requited as it is always easier to...

OK, convinced. Roasting pins prior to AP treatment is a bad idea.

False positive stannous from too much SMB?

...do not like the HCl/Bleach method for this reason, I prefer to use HCl/Peroxide or HCl/Pool Chlorine for this reason. The solution needs to be at 2-4 the lower the better. Stannous also need to be done in a low pH milieu, not that critical but still. Add a bit of HCl and see what happens.

AP Waste Solution will not clear - dirty transmission oil

I did 1 2 3 ... have been researching this for 7 years - read almost everything on this forum dealing with gold refining. I'm jut forgetful i guess :) Thanks for the assistance.

Just a Newbie thirsty for knowledge

...add an aquarium pump to bubble air through it, it will save you the effort of stirring every couple of hours. In the early days of the forum, "AP" was made using the 3 parts HCl and 1 part peroxide that you used. We've learned that this can dissolve a bit of gold as the copper chloride...

    AP Colour Question

You misunderstood, exces H2O2 can dissolve gold. Gold in solution will also cement out on more reactive metals like copper with tiny amounts of free HCL. An excess of HCl is used to convert dark CuCl1 to green CuCl2 as shark said.

E-waste scrap in chemical to be processed

...attempt at processing e-waste was started 6 weeks abo. Before my lab was built, and before my fume hood. I just went into it pretty blind with AP solution. I rinsed it with distilled water, and learned how big of a mistake that was. After doing a bit of research, I was able to clean up half...

    Bad Urea

Copper is one of those metals that is content to exist in multiple oxidation states. We use it in the CuCl2 leach (AP) as the copper goes back and forth between CuCl2 (where the copper is Cu2+) and CuCl (where the copper is Cu+). It can do the same thing in AR, and as it's oxidation state...

Step by step instructions for AP processing circuit boards

...use 1 1/2 gallons of that waste to dissolve a 4-5 ounce bar in three to five days, and self precipitate the excess copper as the white form of copper. But this is an AP thread and really trying to stick to it, it just kind of overlaps a few others things I did that might be a side track issue.

    Gold Foam

If nitric is expensive or hard to get and you're not in a hurry the AP process might be a better option for you.

    Is my HCl dissolving gold?

Nobody here leach whole PCBs in AR. Not even in AP. We remove the fingers or other good parts, then we put those in AP and after it has done its job we go to AR, HCl/Bleach or HCl/Peroxide

    New feedstock question

...of boards & doing so on a regular/continuing basis Large scale operators (actual businesses) need to see their returns in a timely manner (ASAP) not only so they can pay their supplier/client in a timely manner but also see a consistent & dependable cash flow that pays for cost of operations...

My Plan - New to Refining. I would love a review please.

...which only adds to confusion. If I were new to this process and starting out we should start at the beginning. 1. I have acquired a few laptops or desktop computers and I want to recover the gold. I disassemble the units to end up with the circuit boards and that is where we should...

How do you know if AP solution is saturated?

Found it. But this still says that there is no need for Peroxide if you follow the thread.

    Telecom board in solution

You never put whole boards in AR. You use AP for that, which requires no H2O2 by twe way. The gold plating on these boards seem very thin.

Is Sodium hydroxide best solution to git rid of tin and lead?

The professional companies do not process boards chemically. Simple as that, they shred, pyrolize, incinerate and smelt.

Inquarting Gold with Aluminum if not intending to recover?/Chloroauric Acid from Hydrochloric acid and Hydrogen Peroxide?

...silver present, it could potentially be used to leach out copper and other base metals. I maybe tried some sort of iron (III) chloride leach or AP style bath... But I do not see any benefit of doing this, since the chance you would have something for inquart that is silver free is negligible.

    AP Questions

I would like to apologize to everyone in this thread who offered me constructive advice. My snarky replies were not respectful and for that I am truly sorry. I did follow the advice to study up before asking so many questions. As far as the wastes go. I was able to capture the solids in the...

Unsure where to take this next.

Not really sure if Sulfuric acid is sold as mortar cleaner. HCl is usually the choice for mortar, as it is a lot cheaper, but also corresponds with the 20% solution, where as Sulfuric is usually used for drain cleaning predominately (and refining, as well as a lot of other uses ), in the 97%...

Newly created copper (ll) chloride leach vessel

You still need to have enough AP to cover the cylinder. Inside the other bucket? Which means you will fouls all the AP if it gets fouled. Which I do not believe, I have never had the AP being fouled by "fingers". Better use small tall containers inside the bucket and apparatus. This way you can...

    Nitric Acid - cold temps

...cold conditions. Consider a 5 gallon bucket with a heat band. They make heat bands for use on plastic pails. For less fume you could consider AP to release foils from the copper underplate. Slower, but not as fume intensive, but it needs some heat as well. You. may want to read up on...
