Step by step instructions for AP processing circuit boards

Volume and speed is how I determined where the pins went. Need them quick, a cell. If you can wait AP. Low grade pins aren’t likely to make serious money for the average home refiner, so I used AP by adding small handfuls of low end pins here and there. The down side is the other materials in...

Step by step instructions for AP processing circuit boards

Let's wait to see if more AP users want to contribute here before we move on to questions about how long the solution lasts and regenerating the solution.

    Hello - seeking advice!

I have had great results processing the vintage HP boards as shown in your IMG_8979 in Acid Peroxide (AP). You'll have to research that term. 1) *Please first remove (and perhaps save) all of the components on the boards (there are several ways to do that). 2) Drill one small thru hole near the...

Step by step instructions for AP processing circuit boards

All but one of my larger systems worked on the same principle. It was different system that I targeted pins and larger copper pieces with. I am still arguing with my self over rehashing how it worked yet. I know I should but…….

    Looking for learning,

I guess the finished is on the right? Cupric Chloride is what we sometimes call AP. In the beginning one used a small amount of Peroxide in HCl to get it started. HCl to cover the product then just bubble air through it until the foils are loosened. It is slow but cheap.

AP Waste Solution will not clear - dirty transmission oil

I understand you have AP with sulfuric. I don't think it will harm the process much. The dark color will likely be cuprous chloride. The sulfuric will convert some chloride salts in sulfate salts, freeing up more chloride to return to the AP cycle. As long as no insoluble sulfates form, you...

Separating Gold Precipitate from Base Metal Precipitates

Why advice him to pour off active leach solution, continue with weak HCl, and start over with H2O2 when he has perfectly good AP?

My Plan - New to Refining. I would love a review please.

Because im so new to this, is it okay if i post pictures of what i have? Im not sure what exactly is good to be honest. thank you for starting this forum, i am learning a lot!

    auric sodium chloride

...base metals build up enough the gold will drop out as a brown powder. Then you need to collect foils and powders and refine these. YGG mentions AP, read this. It is a slow process however works well. When done correctly the foils fall off the fingers. (time 1 or more weeks). Needs air...

    Help with mishap!

Yeah, but 1960's G10 is very different from modern day. The resin softens quite readily and turns into a goo with chemical exposure. I'm not sure if it's the size of the fiberglass strands or the resin itself, but the stuff makes a mess. I've had it go "limp" from AP exposure only.

Has any seen this type of percipitate from AR before?

I guess that they are thin enough for that. If you melt it that will not work.

Well, now I done it! Impatience strikes.

AP is a patient man's process. Let it run its course. When this batch of CPUs are done, test again with stannous. If it is still positive, put in some more material like fingers. Eventually, enough copper will dissolve to displace (cement) the gold that's in solution. Dave

...Like a strainer. Pick out the stripped ones and add more fingers. You can also perforate smaller plastic containers and put them besides each other in the AP. Air hose can be put under the material. Back on subject of reuse of AP: I still have a 25 Liter jerry can of AP stored. Its not waste.

Step by step instructions for AP processing circuit boards

AP comes from Acid Peroxide and is derived on how it was run/started in the beginning. It is actually a Cuprous Chloride etch where Copper goes back and forth between Copper I Chloride and Copper II Chloride with the help of Oxygen in the liquid. The Oxygen can be provided by Peroxide or better...

Step by step instructions for AP processing circuit boards

While this is true, if you have any concerns about re-using your AP solutions processing them separately can make a difference. This was pointed out in this thread. I am hoping this thread will continue on to re-using and recovery of AP wastes.

Step by step instructions for AP processing circuit boards

I did some research about removing iron along with copper from saturated AP solution with electrolysis and it is indeed possible, in fact it we can remove all the main contaminant metals including nickel, zinc, cobalt, tin, lead etc. leaving the HCl relatively clean for reuse. By tuning the cell...

    Remove tin solders

The gold will be there, but the base metal core is more reactive than Tin (Probably iron), so it will keep cementing or plating back on it i'm afraid. Have you tried AP on a few pins?

I would like to hear more about this. I have noticed sometimes AP seemed to loose more volume than others but mainly attributed it to heat since out weather can change suddenly and drastically at times.

    Need a hand please

Welcome to the forum. To aviod problems by mixing organic acid with the chemical salts we create as waste we don't use vinegar or peracetic acid. Look for the AP process.

why AP and not nitric, is there a valid reason or can I also use nitric?

Great to be here on the forum with you all!

Welcome to us. PGMs are an order of magnitude harder than Gold and Silver and also in toxicity. Most professional refiners don't even touch it.

    AP solution

In any solution with Chlorides, Silver will either not dissolve or if already dissolved crash out as Silver Chloride. AgCl us not soluble in acidic solutions. In AP Silver may if present be a grayish metallic solid or a white fluffy solid as Silver Chloride.

My experimental calcs on buying Escrap from online sellers

Is that the plan or have you already done it? Your use of past, current and future tense seems unclear. Be advised that if you use Bleach you have to keep control of the pH so it do not get too high. And SMB do not work well if the pH is too high. Better to use Peroxide or pool Chlorine tablets.

...the solid pieces out by using a perforated bucket to hold your plated items. So you can lift the bucket out to strain the gold and agitate the AP. Then let it settle and decant when no insoluble copper chloride is in the AP. Wash the copper salts out with HCl to avoid insoluble cuprous...

Help with potential profits of RAM scrap

What about the light blue solution which contains mainly of water with a little bit of left over copper solution? Can I dispose of that through the drain after it is neutralized or is there too much metal still in it?
