Base metal removal

Hi, Just need something confirmed, i remember reading on a website but for the life of me can't remember where.
Is it possible to remove base metals from electronic scrap (boards pins etc) using just hydrochloric acid?
I want to just remove base metals and leave the actual refining process for a later date.
