hi everyone i am new to the forum and have been searching the postings looking for the meaning of the acronyms like SMB for example is there a list or link somewhere in the archives so i can know what every one id refering to :? best regards gu

You will find that you have lots of questions and will need to do many hours of reading to learn refining.

these can be some good reading

AR= aqua regia
AP= acid peroxide or HCl peroxide or HCL/H2O2
SMB= sodium metabisulfite
this is a language you will pick up as you go as with anything you study you will learn the language just like electronics has its own language and studying it before long it will no longer be Greek.

thanks all for the replies if i wanted to get started would the safest bet be to use somthing like the simplicity system from shor ? when i say safest i mean health and saftey issues combined with the need for experience with the process . i realize that this can be done with lots of commonly available stuff for little expense but unless i could work for or with someone here in columbus ohio i would be taking a big risk for injury at having an accident or creating serious polloution losing my metal etc.
i will admit ive Karated gold alloy down to about 6kt and dissovlved in a beaker w/ 70% nitric acid but it was dangerous and i was young and foolish but smart enough to do it in a remote area and stand upwind now i`m older and want to try it the right way -gu
