I have been presented with a problem to try to find a solution for at work. I have a some steel discs cut from a sheet of blued spring steel. I need to polish the faces and round out the edges. The smoother the surface the better...essentially i neeed a mirror finish. I was thinking about electropolishing but I do not know very much about it. Would it be easy to set up a small scale system to test it out? Does anyone have any advice, book recomendations, or other good resources for me to get started?

thanks for any help you can provided!

It's not that simple and the solutions used, usually a mix of strong acids, can be quite dangerous. Lots of fumes possible. Not that easy to control and make it work the same way every day. Instead of spending 6 months on the learning curve, you would be money ahead finding a good plating shop that has a good reputation for doing electropolishing.
