I am reading hoke ( Man it is boring) and I am on page 42 (forgive me if I complain a little but it makes me feel better and seems to help me concentrate)

So in this section we are disolving base metals and silver with nitric acid. Hoke says after you rinse what is left to store this solution as there may be recoverable silver in it. Seeing my brian is skipping ahead a little I wanted to ask

if this liquid is evaporated would the base metals and silver be left behind or are the metals in some chemical form that will allow them to gas off in the evaporation?

Maybe we can keep all your questions about Hoke's book all in one thread to keep them manageable.

You will find this in Hoke if you read it but to answer your question leave the base metals and the silver in the acid and do not dry them, that will only leave you mixed metals in a stinky mess. Add copper metal and cement the silver to drop it out as 99% silver which you can melt and reuse to inquart more metal. Then you only have base metals in the waste.

& a question from another one of your post (quote) Now at page 43 Hoke says to further refine the gold that we place it in aqu regia. Why the nitric acid? Why couldn't you just place all the metals in the aqua regia to begin with? (end quote)

I have a question for you boutselis --- you are only on page 43 of Hoke's book - so why are you asking me (&/or others that have already read & studied Hoke's book) to answer question that are in her book? --- All you need to do is keep reading!

I mean if you find reading Hoke's to be boring - then you are going to find our answers to these kind of question to be boring also. --- After all - the answers we give you are going to be same answers she provides in her book.

Why? --- because that is where we learned them from.

So keep reading - you only have about another 300 pages to go :!: :!: :!:
